HELLO AGAIN! PLUS : FONT FEST! (PART TWO)

Hey y'all!

I really tend to hibernate in the winter, especially when the weather goes from so so cold to cold as the dickens! Here in DC that change happened in the past week or so, and as a result I've mostly been holed up in my house under blankets.
&you know what that means!
No?
It means : wasting spending so much time digging through the internet!

During a recent dig, I stumbled upon this post on Pikaland which turned me onto this legitly badass typography resource on the legitly badass (and legitly in spanish) neo2 blog! They feature loads of unique lettering styles by loads of illustrators &designers.
LOADS!

I wanted to share some of my favorite fonts (which are freeee to download!) and barely got past the first page of them before having way too many for sharing to be reasonable.
So instead of all my most-faveys ( way too hard to pick ), I instead give you this little taste test of what you'll find on the site :

{ psst.. I highly recommend you click this pic so you can see these fonts in BIG size. worth it }

p.s. i have green hair now!

It's pretty fun. I feel kinda like a vegetable.
In a fun way!
I decided that if I were a vegetable I would be a haleychoke. Just makes sense.

FONT FEST!

Due to an acute case of insomnia last month, I managed to add over 25 new fonts to my obsessive collection..
&then I realized that I should share the wealth! { plus that helps me justify the amount of hours I spent looking at fonts.. }

also: One of my goals in life is to:
a) find, & b) hang out next to: the Tumtum tree!
from the Jabberwocky by Lewis Carrol...
Yeah.. I think about that old tree a lot.. { hence the text in the font samples }

..Right. Chew on this! { these! }
psst.. click for big-style action
make-a-click, make-a-big
click. big.
12. Witched

**** unless noted otherwise, all of these here fonts are from FontSpace ****

Oh wait! TOTAL BONUS :
The font I used to number the uh, other fonts is none other than mine very own-made Romantique!

You can download it here, and while you're there, you may as well grab my other font, Shirtsy!
Enjoy!!

I've had all manner of nice things happen in the past few weeks so I figure I ought to pass a little of it on -- and it has been a while since I've given you something to play with.. so here's what I made you!

There are two PDFs:
- one with 2 sheets of milk-on-graph writing paper (approximately 5"x7"), and
- one with a milk-on-graph envelope template (approximately 3.5"x5")

..the writing paper fits perfectly in the envelope once it's folded, and the envelope has a white label space already on it, ready for you to fill in!

download the writing paper here
download the envelope template here

the only rule is that you use it for personal use only.. print it out as many times as you want, give it as a gift, whatever, just don't sell it or steal it, plz.

I think milk cartons are pretty freaking cute, btw.

MADE (AND SOME FOR YOU!! - FREEEEEBIE!!)

hey y'all!

I'm in DC now... 9 days til the Big Move... it's coming so quickly! (and also very, very slowly)

Soon as I got here my pal PJ came over and I realized I didn't have a present to give him for his birthday last week(!) sooo I made one right quick!

PJ is a big fan of Cornelius, the old shaky elephant from Babar, so picking an illustration to draw wasn't too hard. I love Cornelius, too! Shaky old elphant...

This was a good present cause now he won't have any excuse not to write to me in England...

*****

So now you're thinking "what's in it for me?"

Well I'll tell you!

A pretty little button-bow notecard!! To download! And print! And write on! Etc!

how sweet!

these guys are small - 4bar, and the PDF is laid out so there's 4 to a page...

Grab them here! I hope you all like them!!

p.s. just a reminder-- if you ever think up some great idea for stationery or other paper thingie that you'd like to see realized, just let me know! we can all work together to keep freebies coming!!

TUTORIAL : MAKE AN ORGANIZATION/PROCRASTINATION FOLDER! **FREE DOWNLOAD**

As promised, I'm back with a tutorial for the Organization/Procrastination Minifolder that I made a few weeks ago.

you will need :

- a printer!
- white or cream colored cardstock
- white or cream colored text paper
- ruler
- bone folder (not necessary, but makes folding so so much easier)
- chipboard or cereal box
- stapler
- double sided tape or gluestick

here's what to do :

1. download the pdf file for the mini folder ( here )

2. print onto heavy cardstock, cut out, set aside ( DO NOT fold in half! )

3. download the pdf file for the organization list and the procrastination list ( here )

4. print desired amount ( i printed about 13 copies for 26 of each list ) onto text weight paper, cut out, set aside

5. measure the lists, and cut 2 pieces of chipboard or cereal box to be slightly shorter, set aside

you'll want to make a spine for the mini folder so that it closes properly having the lists inside.

the width of the spine will vary depending on how thick your list stacks are, but a 1/4" spine worked for mine.
( if you printed more or less lists than I did, you can find the width of your spine by putting the two stacks together and then measuring how tall the pile is. that will be your spine width. You can alter this next step to fit your exact spine by inserting your own measurements )

to make a 1/4" spine :

6. lay the mini folder out and measure it longways to find the center

7. with a pencil, lightly make two marks on the ends of the folder : one 1/8" to the left of the center, one 1/8" to the right.

8. fold at the points you've marked, burnishing with a bone folder if you have one.

now your mini folder has a spine! great!

9. assemble each list onto your cut piece of chipboard/box and staple together at the top

10. tape or glue the backs of the chipboard/box to either side of the folder

ta da!

keep in your purse or on your desk and do some work! (or not!)

BUCKET BUSINESS

{ the man, the legend, the Bucket }

One day in 2005 I was bored and set off on a mission: to go to a bar i'd never been to and find a best friend for life. and it worked! that night i met Bucket, and ever since we've been inseparable (well ok, now i live in providence and he lives in dc but we sure talk on the phone enough to count as inseparable, dangit)

Bucket does booking for the velvet lounge which is by far the best music venue in dc (coincidentally, I used to work there, too) and he needed a business card, you know, to hand out and uh, network with. business stuff... anyhow, i decided to make it as a gift for his playing the guitar during the recessional at my wedding ceremony.

the velvet lounge is by no means a delicate location, which is why i decided to make the business cards as delicate as possible. high class, man...

bux and i are both very happy with them and i wish to design more business cards in the future. i dont think enough people have fun with them.

*****ALSO*****

did you know that bucket and i are in a band together? several bands actually, but our main effort is called Religious Tongues, and as a bonus today I am offering up a download of an early demo called "Headspace"!

{me and buck = religious tongues}

...I play the drums and bucket plays guitar and we both sing.

grab it here!

let me know what you think!! do any of you make music?

things i invented - pt.2 - FREE DOWNLOAD!

why hello there, how have you been these past moments? great, good, yes, me too...

this post is a pseudo tutorial... pseudo because i made the project in a mad frenzy without a thought as to how i was doing what i was doing. i will try my best to reenact the process in words.

*****

my sister Tisa is my best friend. (wedding note : she is also the world's all time best maid of honor EVER) ...we are very famous to one another. she is 3 years older than me and teaches science to tiny ones. here is a picture of the two of us painted by the famous Rembrandt at the mall :

this is a picture of Theresa sniffin around on a flower, she does that kinda stuff :

she's really nice and always tells me i am doing a good job, so today i wanted to make her A Thing in appreciation. and you can make the same thing i did! if you want to!

so!

first i downloaded a template for a tabbed pocket folder from my favorite paper distributor's website (Neenah Paper)

(psst.. download the template, and a bunch of others, here)

then, using some drawlins i had layin around the computer i whipped up 2 different to do lists to print out

(downloadable pdf files at the end of the post! score!)

i printed each to do list 4 to a page, trimmed them, and then layered the two in a stack to make a note pad. for a sturdy backing i cut an old cereal box to size and then stapled the whole affair together.

next i assembled the folder (which by the way, has to be sized to fit an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper because it is apparently intended for big old fancy paper that not all of us have...). the folder is pretty easy to make. you know, fold on the dashed lines, cut on the solid lines. tape or glue pocket flaps into place, voila! and then you get to decorate!

LASTLY, using double sided tape i attached the note pad to the side of the folder without the pocket, decorated a little more, and then dissolved into a heaving mass of corner rounders and decorative scissors. sort of.

and this is what i ended up with:

(this is the front.)

(this is what you see when you open it.)

(here you can see how i have decorated the pocket &also utilized the tab function.)

(the to do list note pad!)

(to do list #1 - knitgirl)

(to do list #2 - notgirl)

(this is what it looks like from the back. you can see the tab!)

and thus concludes my project sharing for the day... this thingy was pretty fun to make, and is really quite useful. it ends up being small enough that you can tuck it in your purse or whatevz and you know, actually use it... i am finding myself obsessed with making folders suddenly... (in fact, i'm working on some even as i write this)

*****

ok, kiddos... i leave you with a pdf download of each to do list... help yourself and have fun!
